Having cancer as an adult is no day at the park. It is scary, debilitating, life changing, and sometimes life ending. As a survivor, I know how lucky I am. It makes me sick every time I hear of someone being diagnosed with one of the many cancers that are out there. My entire being wishes that I could snap my fingers and take away the pain and suffering.
Childhood cancer though? That is even more unimaginable. Children are our future. They are our inspiration. They are our future leaders, inventors, and makes of world peace. Losing more children to cancer is not an option.
Enter St. Jude.
St. Jude is a one of a kind pediatric treatment and research facility. It is a facility that brings hope to families and children with discoveries that transform pediatric care for children with cancer and other life changing diseases. It is the only hospital that covers ALL the costs for treatment, travel, food, and lodging for each patient and a family member.
Which is why, I am thrilled to share that the Ruckus Media, a global children’s media company, is partnering with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for the annual Thanks and Giving campaign, a holiday program that asks shoppers to “Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not,” while shopping this holiday season.
Giving Thanks for the Healthy Kids in Your Life
Ruckus will donate to St. Jude 100% of the net proceeds ($1.39) of the company’s classic Read-Play-and-Record Along Rabbit Ears interactive storybooks from November 15 – December 31, 2011. As in, the purchases you make for the healthy children around you, go directly to help the children and research efforts at St. Jude.
Additionally, Ruckus has specially priced eleven other apps to expand the reach of this partnership with the following titles:
PECOS BILL, TOLD BY ROBIN WILLIAMS(Robin Williams is a long-time supporter of St. Jude)
THE VELVETEEN RABBIT, TOLD BY MERYL STREEP
NEW! THUMBELINA, TOLD BY KELLY MCGILLIS
THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, TOLD BY MERYL STREEP
JOHN HENRY, TOLD BY DENZEL WASHINGTON
NEW! PAUL BUNYAN, TOLD BY JONATHAN WINTERS
TOM THUMB, TOLD BY JOHN CLEESE
GOLDILOCKS, TOLD BY MEG RYAN
JOHNNY APPLESEED, TOLD BY GARRISON KEILLOR
THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDER, TOLD BY JEREMY IRONS
THE THREE LITTLE PIGS, TOLD BY HOLLY HUNTER
These entertaining yet educational apps take “traditional storytelling” and blend it with technology for mobile devices to entertain children from tots to teens, “from their fingers to their minds, at home or on the road—and invite their imaginations to grow.”
Why support St. Jude?
So yes, these apps will provide our healthy children with high quality and engaging on the go entertainment. But also? Buying an app and saving a child will help St. Jude for three important reasons.
- Thanks to the kindness of donors, no family ever pays for St. Jude care.
- Public donations from people like us provide more than 75 percent of St. Jude’s funding. It costs $1.7 million a day to operate St. Jude. (source, stjude.org)
- Support St.Jude’s research to provide state of the art care and treatments for the world’s sickest kids.
I don’t know about you but Meg Ryan telling the story of Goldilocks and Pecos Bill with Robin Williams? And Merryl Streep telling just about anything? I am going to do my part to support the fight against childhood cancer.
Will you?

I am absolutely buying a few of these…how amazing and I always buy from St Jude for xmas, but we also donate 4 times a year. I never want to hear my child has cancer, it will be better when no parent has to hear those words. What a fantastic post!
Nothing is more heartbreaking when you see children suffering, Elena… That is one fact of life that I always have to grapple with to understand…
Thank you for sharing this info with us… for bringing more awareness and introducing ways for us to help!
What a noble cause it is! I think everyone must support St. Jude. Kids suffering from Cancer deserve the treatment and a good life too. I will certainly support this cause.
Such a great cause, Elena. Thank you for sharing this information.
