There are places on earth that inspire you. Places that just lend themselves to certain lifestyles and attitudes. Hermosa Beach California is one of those places.
Looking out at the beach from my balcony at the Beach House Hotel there was a constant stream of runners, walkers, bicyclists, and volleyball players all day long. It is one of those places that makes you wish you could live here…because there is no way that you could live here and NOT be fit.
So on my last day, I decided to go for a walk. I had packed my Merrell Pace Glove shoes since they were light and did not take up a lot of room in my carry on. Laced up and ready to go I made my way down the boardwalk, known as The Strand. I will be honest, I was not maintaining a fast walking pace, because it was hard not to stand in awe of the stunning houses that line the path.
I turned around after about a mile and then kept going…retracing my mile and then going another mile in the opposite direction…which in the end, made for about 3 miles give or take (could have been four miles…if only I had my Garmen GPS watch with me).
Feeling great and wanting to stick my toes in the Pacific Ocean, I made my way to the beach…and decided to walk. And walk. And walk. I found my way 1.8 miles (according to the front desk clerk of the hotel) to the far pier…and then back for a grand total of six or so miles.
By the time I got back to the hotel, I will be honest, I was EXHAUSTED. But also? So very happy.
(edited: according to the hotel desk clerk, my initial counts were low. It looks like my total mileage was closer to NINE miles).

LOVE walking (and running) on the beach!!! though I’m Atlantic side not pacific lol
awesome! love exploring by walking!
The houses were truly stunning…I could have lived in any one of them.
Love those accidentally too long walks! I’m training for the 3-day breast cancer and 9 miles is quite a chunk of time!
