Back to school. Back to reality. August is usually my crazy busy time of year as I am trying to prepare myself to go back to work at school every day as well as preparing my daughter and our household for her own return to school. Shopping, checklists, you name it…it is part of the back to school season.
This year though things are markedly different when it comes to back to school preparation.
First off, I am not going back to school. (Can I get a woo hoo?)
Secondly, I am not out decoding supply lists and scavenging Target or Staples for the specific colors of folders that my daughter’s teachers have requested. No…I am not sending her to school empty handed. I am sending her to school where upon her arrival, her back to school supplies will be delivered to her classroom. Her school’s PTA organized a package with an online company where we could buy the entire list of school supplies with the simple click of the keyboard (and um, a credit card).
There are of course items to buy. New shoes because of course Principessa’s feet have grown. New pants (back to the having grown part). A few new outfits (because what child doesn’t like to start school with a few new “I am a ___ grader outfits?) Maybe even a new lunch box. For those that like checklists to get prepared, Julie from Julieverse.com also has a fabulous Back to School checklist with great tips on what to look for when shopping for back to school.
Backpacks are always a big issue between looking for something that is sturdy, supportive, and not too big or unwieldy. When Principessa started first grade we bough a backpack with wheels. After two days of attempting to navigate the school bus and her own classroom hooks, we got smart and went with something lighter, smaller, and wheel-less. She is now extremely interested in a messenger back (like the one shown in the photo taken thanks to Night School lesson at Lands End University hosted by MomTrends and Lands End where I styled a first day of school outfit), but the jury (me) is still out on whether a messenger bag is the right way to go.
What about you? Where are you in your preparations for back to school?
I was provided with a gift for attending Night School with Lands End and MomTrends. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.
