38 items have made their way onto my What Lights Me Up List so far.
- All things Haiti
- Raising awareness about causes that I adore
- Singing prayers with Principessa at bedtime
- Coaching a colleague through a problem solving situation
- Being Interviewed
- Public Speaking
- Facilitating a brainstorming session
- Getting on a plane
I have not started categorizing my list or looking for themes, although the patterns are becoming readily apparent. I can already see a steady stream of topics that relate to mentoring, coaching, facilitating.
The trick for me at this stage of my list is to be patient, to be open to ideas, and to not judge one item as more or less important. I have already caught myself second guessing my items. Wondering if nurturing a plant back to health is really something that LIGHTS me UP. Or trying to analyze why the smell of Jasmine fits (or doesn’t) on my list.
This is not the time to analyze. It is the time to give myself the gift of listing. No judgements. No evaluations. Just listing.
There will be plenty of time to analyze. Plenty of time to look for patterns. Plenty of time to make meaning of what it all means.
Right now though? This is a gift I am giving myself. A gift that will eventually help shape the direction that I am to travel. A gift that will be the root of my goals, and the reasoning behind decisions that I have to make.
The rest will come later. The attainable goals. The quantifiable indicators. The measures of success. Eventually everything will be measured by the one question: Is it on the List?
But for now, looking for things that light me up? That is enough.
