Reclaiming Me: Motivation

by Elena on August 8, 2011 in Reclaiming Me

Yes. It is true. I was one of the 3600 people congregated in San Diego for BlogHer.  And while I am not going to get in to the details of the conference quite yet, there is one thing for certain about BlogHer.  It is EXHAUSTING.  It is go, go, go all day and all night. There are sessions, and people to meet, parties, and networking. Forget exploring the beautiful city around you, one goes into survival mode trying to find five minute here or there to sit and read or have quiet time amidst the hustle and bustle.

That being said, I am now two weeks away from my Iron Girl triathlon. So there were no choice for me but to make my working out a priority.  Finding the motivation to get up early, as in 5:30 am, was not easy. Especially as the days wore on.

The pool at the Marriott at 6:21 in the am.

The first morning there was easy to get up since I was on east coast time.  I had already laid out my bathing suit and goggles and off I went for a swim.

The second day was relatively easy if nothing else because I knew I was going to see people like @Chimomwriter, @kpugs, @sellabitmum and @mommy_pants.  If that was not incentive enough, I was going to run as part of Team Amazeballs, led by the fabulous Andrea Fellman,  To top off the morning, I even got to run most of the course with the fabulous Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea of Run Like a Mother (until I realized that their long legs had us at a pace that I was managing, but just barely).

Getting ready to run with Sarah Bowen Shea and Dimity McDowell. Forgive my closed eyes. I was visualizing keeping up with them! :)

The surprise of the morning was that the one and only @Bookieboo, @Momma Oz, and @Gutimom were also there.  Talk about wanting to SQUEE!!!

The end result was a great morning run (although ok, not a true 5k) and….in case I was not already excited about my Iron Girl coming up….I now have a reason to be even more excited.  I met the brains behind Team Sparkle that morning…these ladies make running skirts that are…sparkly, and to die for. And guess who is ordering one for the triathlon? That would be me.  :)

The third day on the other hand, was a bit harder to get excited about. Not that I was not excited to meet the ladies behind Fit Approach and Sweat Pink, but a 5:30 wake up to be ready for 6 am boot camp?  After two nights of staying up late?  The good news is that I did it. The bad news is that there were push ups and lunges, and squats.  Followed by more of the same over and over again. And today, two days later? My legs….hurt.  A lot.  Oh and although I don’t have any pictures, there was a photographer getting each one of us in our glory as we did our pushups, lunges, and squats. Can’t wait to see those pics! (not so much).

All in all, I would call BlogHer a motivation success! No, it was not the second to last weekend push that my Iron Girl training might have warranted, but it was a push. And for that, I can smile (except for when I try to get up from sitting, my leg muscles are not smiling!). :)

PS: In case you have not checked it out, please take a peak at the new Just.Be.Enough.  I am so excited to get the new site up and running, and starting next week will host a weekly link up called Be Enough Me.

I am SO glad I got to meet you! You are so very lovely!! Good luck at your tri and you will totally rock the sparkle skirt!

Also, it looks like I have a baby under my shirt. Or something.

Thanks so much Cheryl! I am glad we were able to chat at breakfast. It is so nice to put the real person behind the words we read, especially when they are kind and thoughtful (and funny) like you!

Really cool that you got to participate and meet the ladies. You are right, motivation comes in all shapes and forms, and the conference and the people there is one of them. I hope I can make it next year!

Wow, I think you win the award for doing the MOST exercise while at BlogHer! HA! Great to have met you!

And good luck with your triathlon!!

Wow! I admire you! I didn’t exercise the whole time! Does eating all that chocolate and Dove ice cream count toward burning any calories?

Kimberly August 9, 2011 at 1:10 am

Good for you for exercising while away!

You’re awesome! It’s hard to stick with your goals when there’s so much to do. I’m glad you ad some other fabulous women working with you.

I kind of like have the biggest crush on you EVER. Also, I keep thinking about how awesome your boobs looked in that dress Saturday night. Meeting you was AMAZING. YOU are so incredibly nice – like will you please be my best friend?

Elena August 9, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Um yes, I will be your best friend! :) And the crush is mutual. Your hugs and smile always made me feel better–even when I was already feeling pretty decent.
