The power of one day

June 21, 2010 in From the Ground Up,Rocket, running, wine

Last Saturday, Rocket and I shared an entire day, doing only things that we WANTED to do.  We ran in the morning, visited the site of our new house, took a trip to the Winery at La Grange (where we were married), had some individual time (for me: reading at the pool, for Rocket: running errands), and then a delicious dinner out to cap off the day.  The magic of this day was that it had been a while ( a long long while) since Rocket and I had a day where we were able to pick and choose what to do, and actually get to be still for more than a few moments.

It was blissful.

The next day, Sunday, was a day of soccer…. and of bloggy drama.  Hours and hours of work went into this blog design (isn’t it fab?  Nap Warden of NW Designs is my hero!!)—and hours and hours of thought and attention were spent by me…picking plug ins and widgets. And then, in one foul swoop…. the comments on the blog were no longer working. Nap Warden and I spent an evening emailing back and forth—resulting in my deleting of all the widgets and plug ins that I had so laboriously chosen. I have to admit, the bliss of the prior day was gone.  It Italy’s world cup performance had not been depressing enough, the idea of my new blog home being disabled for a time left me….

….sad, very very sad.

A day- a moment really, is all it takes to turn  your entire life upside down- for the good or the bad.  Granted, my despair about the blog was something that my non blogging friends will think is a bit extreme…..but this site is in some ways, a reflection of me.  What I realized though, as I now sit back and marvel at the magical touch of Nap Warden making everything perfect again, is that finding time for bliss…..cannot be an afterthought.  Seeking bliss is not always easy, nor is it realistic to expect day after day of  unfettered joy….but carving out time on your calendar that is sacred- to be still, to laugh, and chat, and just “be”…..whether you are having dinner at home, or enjoying a glass of wine at a winery….that is bliss.

When was the last time you carved out time?  What would your bliss look like?

Chin up is right! I think that the hardest part is that every time I feel as if I have developed or refined a new blogging/technology skill….another ones comes up and teases me. That is why I just bought the Wordpress for Dummies book :)

Mine does that too. Mine also looks different depending on screen size and resolution. If only the things that made us happy were also easy. (but then I guess it would be no fun!) :)
