What’s Beautiful?

by Elena on October 8, 2012 in Fitness

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. An old but true statement.

Beauty for me… lies more in places that are transformative, moments that are magical, landscapes that make you dream, and the soul of a person to beat the odds… instead of the physical appearance of an individual. Beauty is realizing that you can achieve your dreams by setting goals and crushing them.

Changing I can't to I did | Ciao Mom

Under Armour Women set out to redefine the female athlete by creating What’s Beautiful, a program that encourages women to share their fitness journeys and receive motivation, free gear, and support from Under Armour along the way.

My fitness journey this year has been a bit of a roller coaster. But with each up and down, or swerve, I have set new goals. Goals like a half marathon (or three!) in the next year. Goals that are about strength and health instead of pounds or dress sizes.  Goals that mean I have to push myself, every single day with workouts and better nutrition. Like running four miles, twice in one day on a hotel gym treadmill while traveling to a conference to get in eight miles. Or like spending a morning sea kayaking followed by an afternoon of bicycling to get in as much cross training as I could during another trip. Or realizing that after a week with a cold, ten miles was just not in the cards, and cutting myself some slack when a 90 minute walk on the treadmill was all I could muster.

Beauty is believing, knowing, and feeling…that you can and you will achieve. I will finish my half marathon in two weeks, and I will better my time at my next half marathon in February, and then…improve again at my third next April. It will happen.

Because that is what’s beautiful.

The Under Armour What’s Beautiful community is growing by the minute and the women in the challenge are seriously bringing it. Join in by setting your own goal. Crush it. The 10 women with the most epic journeys will win a trip to Florida to the Under Armour Women’s Camp Sweat where you will train with the best.

But more importantly…believe…believe in you. Believe you CAN. Believe you WILL.  Believe that YOU are What’s Beautiful.

These are exactly the values I want to teach my girl. Thanks for summing it up!
